Zora is Design 205 by Dick Koopmans. She was built in Steel by Kuijpers in Schoorlendam as a Kasko and her first owner did all the rest by himself. He is a trained carpenter and did a beautiful job on the interior using Cherry and Maple. He also kept everything simple and functional as he wanted the boat to go to high latitudes with little or no shore support.<\/p>\n
We are the second owners and did a number of gentle modifications. We installed a wind generator, a new engine and a cool box for sailing in warmer climates. For the crossing of the Atlantic we also added a SSB transceiver with Pactor modem. In addition we complemented the safety equipment where necessary. Zora satisfies ISAF offshore special regulations category 1, i. e. she is equipped for „…\u00a0long distance and well offshore, where boats must be completely self-sufficient for extended periods of time, capable of withstanding heavy storms and prepared to meet serious emergencies without the expectation of outside assistance.“<\/span><\/p>\n Zora carries a 6 person Viking RecYou Pro liferaft, an EPIRB, Distress signals as suggested by ISAF category 1, MOB marking buoy with light, 2 solid foam life buoys, one being attached to the marker buoy, 275 N automatic life vests with spray cap, light, tethers and PLB for all crew, a fixed and a portable VHF, active AIS, a radar reflector, 3 anchors, one 30kg Spade, one 12 kg Fortress and a 15 kg \u00a0B\u00fcgel. The Spade is attached to 80m of 10mm chain. \u00a0Finally, Zora also carries a Jordan Series Drogue designed for her displacement and two attachment points at the stern for chafe-free deployment.
